Operating and maintaining military equipment, requires technicians to flip through page after page of technical manuals in order to find the information that they need. But flipping back and forth through cross-referenced materials and multi-page graphics is tedious and time consuming.
Our Interactive Manual (OpenIETM) lets technicians create their own work space in which they can quickly cross-reference procedures and diagrams to help complete their current task. The ability to fully interact with schematics, parts lists, and much more — lets technicians pull up only the information and graphics that they need, so that they can focus on their specific task.
The functionality of the OpenIETM is based on our 40+ years of experience providing support services to the Department of National Defence. It was specifically designed to address the challenges and technical publication requirements of the Canadian military. Key Features of the Interactive Manual
Fully Interactive
The OpenIETM supports fully interactive capabilities. This means that you can click on diagrams, schematics, parts lists, and legends to get more information. Technicians are able to directly select the maintenance procedure, fault/symptom and/or wiring diagram that they need for their maintenance task, and pull up only the information that they need to fix a specific problem.
Advanced Search Capabilities
You can easily search the publication using the search bar at the top of the page which supports bilingual Boolean logic to help get more accurate results. You can then apply filters to get more specific results, such as parts lists, graphics, tables, procedural information, or descriptive information. Additionally, the search results are shown as a preview. By clicking through, it will take you to the exact sentence and highlight the words that were found, without losing your other search results.
Smart Cross-Referencing Capabilities
Flip back and forth between information and images, without losing your original spot. If you click on a link to go to the cross-referenced information, you can click the return button and it’ll take you back to the exact paragraph you were on, which will be highlighted for your convenience.
Pin Figures for Easy Reference
To make it easy to cross-reference figures and tables, you can pin them to the sidebar for later use. You can also go to your history to navigate back to recently viewed information.
Works on Multiple Devices, including Tablets
The OpenIETM can be deployed to many environments and devices, including SharePoint sites, on-equipment solutions, and even tablets. As part of a current project, we are addressing the functional differences of a tablet in order for our IETM to work flawlessly on tablet devices. We will support touch-screen capabilities which include pinch-and-zoom, swipe, and other standard tablet functions. By using standard touch-screen functions, we will be able to provide a native tablet experience that users are already familiar with.

Our Interactive Manual is designed to be truly bilingual. We have fine-tuned it so that you can toggle back and forth between French and English with just one click. It is the only solution on the market that can smoothly transition from French to English, giving you the ability to get an instant translation of the exact content you were viewing — without losing your spot. The user interface, search functionality, graphics, table of contents, content and labels are all fully bilingual.
Runs in Your Existing Internet Explorer Web Browser
We understand that DND is very strict about the installation of executable files on the network, so we have designed our Interactive Manual to be a browser-based solution that runs in your existing Microsoft environment and Internet Explorer web browser. It does not require any third-party applications, so you will not be required to get any additional approvals or permissions in order to use the OpenIETM on the DND network.
Easy to Distribute, With No Restrictions
The OpenIETM is designed to give you flexibility, so that you are not tied to any proprietary software. Our open-source approach means that there is no commercial license, so you are not restricted as to how you use it, or how you distribute it. This enables our solution to be distributed via any number of methods including CD/DVD/USB, on-equipment, network distribution, and even tablet devices. Since the OpenIETM is not a software package, you will not be required to get any additional approvals or permissions in order to use the OpenIETM on the Department of National Defence network.
Built Specifically For The DND Network
Promaxis’ Interactive Manual is built for use within the DWAN and for deployment to DND devices. All aspects of the solution and the functionality have been specifically tailored to the functional requirements of DND.
Does Not Overload The Network
Unlike most solutions, you are never uploading the full publication at one time. All of the Interactive Manuals are created from individual data modules. So when you are using the OpenIETM, you are only pulling up a few small files at a time and you are only loading the information and graphics that you need. Therefore, is does not require a large amount of bandwidth and will not overload the network.
